Just For Grandma

Since General Conference is on Easter and I won't be around to get the kids dressed the following Sunday, we decided to wear our Easter duds this past Sunday. The weather was horrible and the lighting was terrible and so this is the best picture that I was able to get, but I wanted Grandma to see my girl in her beautiful dress. It fits perfectly and Tiger kept saying, "She's a princess." Tiger will wear his vest in a couple of weeks. I didn't have it in me to iron new pants for the kid last week.

Shocking

Sparky let me cut his hair yesterday. Actually, I should say that he let me shave his head. I have been trying to get him to shave his head for a good year and a half or so, but he would have nothing to do with that business. He has been wearing his hair in the ever so cool shaggy style this whole time. I have nothing against the shaggy style and I think that it can look quite cute on boys, given the right kind of hair. Unfortunately, Sparky was not quite blessed with the right hair. He does all right, but it requires a bit of maintenance and upkeep in order to keep it looking decent. The problem was that Sparky did not like to maintain or upkeep his hair and so it was always a battle. The last straw came the other night when I told him to take a shower which he really did not want to do, so I gave him two choices. 1.) He could either go and take a shower or, 2.) He could not shower, wait until the next day and have me shave his head. He chose number 2. I was shocked. So there you have it. The long shaggy hair is no more. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures at the moment, but just wait, Easter is in a few days and I am sure there will be more than enough pictures to share from that event.

I'm such a great mom

I knew that Sparky's shoes were getting to be on the small side, but I thought I could put off buying him new shoes for a bit longer. Well, apparently not. He informed Doug this evening that his feet were feeling a little bit numb and that they kind of hurt. After a bit of investigation Doug discovered that Sparky's shoes were quite a bit more than on the small side. Oops. Is it considered child abuse to continue to send your child to school in little torture traps for shoes if your child (who is 9, by the way) fails to tell you when he has outgrown those shoes? Sheesh! Never fear, Sparky is out shoe shopping as I type.

Actual Birthday - Sunday

Now you know why we had to party ALL weekend. Since Sunday is, well, a Sunday, we had to do all of our fun stuff on the other days. Though never fear, plenty of specialness took place on this day as well. KK woke up and requested waffles for breakfast. We then got dressed for church and KK put on one of her new dresses. Doesn't she just exude "7"?

After church, KK really wanted to spend the afternoon and Grandma and Grandpa's house and they were more than willing to indulge the birthday girl. I am not sure what they did that afternoon, but I am sure it was fun, fun, fun. Finally, that night we all got together for a family birthday dinner.

First the kids did a little jumping on the tramp. I just love how cute these girl cousins are and look at how much fun Morgan is having.

Then there were presents! KK finally got her Zhu Zhu pet and she was shocked and amazed by Grandma's fabulous Scrapbook present.
Finally we ate cake. Isn't this cake cute? I totally stole it from The Idea Room and it was so easy.
Happy Birthday Woo!!

Birthday Weekend - Saturday

After sleeping in to recover from the previous night's escapades, my girl and I headed to the mall to do a bit of shopping (because that's what girls do). After we had spent way too much money we realized that we were a bit hungry and so we decided that we needed to go to lunch (because girls do lunch as well). KK picked Red Robin and I was more than willing to indulge her in an endless basket of fries and a birthday sundae. She was in heaven.

As if that weren't enough, after lunch we headed to the nail salon to get pedicures (because girls really, really LOVE to get pedicures). I found a place down the road that does special Princess Pedicures. It was adorable. They gave her a juice box, put on a movie and had a special chair for her to sit in. She was practically jumping out of her skin she was so excited.

She has decided that her favorite color is orange and so she wanted to paint her toes orange. I think she succeeded. They even put little bear decals on her toes. Not a bad pre-birthday day of fun, don't you think?

Birthday Weekend - Friday

Last weekend we celebrated KK's birthday. . . ALL weekend long. I, myself, feel that birthdays should really be spread out over several days and so I was happy to indulge my one and only girl.

Friday:
Grandpa gave us tickets to the Blue Jackets. It was a blast. We ate, we cheered, and KK danced (A LOT!)

He did not get it from me

This morning as I once again cursed the time change which has made the morning so very dark, and as I tried desperately to peel myself off of my snugly warm and comforting bed, I was greeted by a bright eyed and fully dressed Sparky.

Sparky: Mom, why haven't you come in to wake us up yet?
Me: (while rubbing my eyes and trying to stand) Uhhhh, ummm, I don't usually come in for several more minutes.
Sparky: Oh, OK then. I'm going down to get breakfast.

Seriously, once again where did this kid come from? He has always been an early riser and I have never understood where it came from. I can only hope that this ability continues into the teenage years when he has to get up for Seminary.

On the opposite side of things, when I finally went in to wake KK up it took about 10 minutes before she was willing to move and when she did she was less than pleasant. Now to that I can relate.

An Amoeba of Love

Apparently in Dillon's primary class last Sunday, the teachers were talking to the kids about families and love and whatnot. As part of the lesson they were drawing circles and within the circles they were drawing pictures of the people they love. Sparky in all of his brilliance asks the teacher if he can make his circle any shape he wants. "Sure," the teacher said. "You can draw a heart of love or any other shape you want." Sparky then proceeded to draw a picture on the chalk board.

"What's that?" asked all of the kids in the class.

"It's an amoeba."

"What's an amoeba?" the kids then asked.

"It's a single celled organism . . .blah. . .blah . . .blah"

The other kids may have the brawn, but my kid has the brains.

I have a dream. . .

KK brought this paper home from school yesterday:
"I have a dream that I will be able to do whatever I want. Dillon will clean. Dillon will do dishes."
