Suggestions

What on earth should I do with this space that currently houses a few sad pictures and my dust garden?

Do you have a HomeGoods (sometimes connected to a TJMaxx) or a Hobby Lobby near you? I have this weird built-in bookcase in my living room, and I just went to those stores with a color scheme in mind and bought a bunch of stuff I thought might work, and then returned whatever I didn't end up using. I think both of those stores have tons of cool stuff at good prices. Good luck!!!

Put a nice fake plant - it looks pretty, and you don't have to water it. (and it covers the dust) :)

4 ideas:
1. a live plant
2. one large framed picture - family or artwork
3. a variety of glass bottles, different shapes and sizes, clear or blue, depending on your color scheme
4. books held up with some interesting bookends

Just no ivy...please...no ivy. Unless you want the 90's to call because they want their ivy back. Find a crate or trunk or old fashioned suitcase and stick it up there with a couple of old looking books stacked on top. It's all way easier to wipe off than picture frames and or fake plants.
Or just leave it! Plain, nothing on it, then once a month climb up there and wipe it down, happy in the knowledge that there is nothing else up there to dust!
And btw...Merry Christmas to you too...friend.
